Illustrating My Life Away

I’ve been spending a TON of time illustrating over the last week. Here are a few of the things that I’ve been making. This is a repeating pattern that I made.Screen Shot 2016-08-05 at 1.47.23 PM.pngIsn’t that fun? I love that it’s so like the Mexican tiles that I see all around me here in Tucson.

This is a cactus flower that I illustrated yesterday. I’m in absolute LOVE with it!

And here’s one more flower that I am totally in love with. Different source materials, but I think the result is just as pretty!!!crochetflower3-01.png

Busy, busy, busy

I’ve spent the last couple of days making patterns!!!  I’m not awesome at it yet, it really is much more difficult than it looks, but I LOVE it and can lose hours doing it, so I’m going to keep practicing.

Here are the ones I’ve done most recently. The butterflies and flowers in the top print are from Dover. I hand recolored some of them to get just the look I wanted. LOVE how it turned out!for blog.png

This one is a hand re-drawing (by me!) of part of one of my friend Stephanie Lee’s paintings. She’s given me permission to play with work as much as I want and I am!  I would love use this fabric for the lining of a purse or as a small wallet or pouch.

I am so loving the process!!!  Stay tuned for more patterns!

Taking the Next Step!

IMG_5032 2.jpgI’m super excited to have received my Spoonflower color map in the mail yesterday. Spoonflower is a company that prints fabric. And they’ll print in very small quantities, which is a super plus in my book!

They have a pretty limited selection of colors, so it definitely reinforces my desire to work with a fabric house someday. But for now, printing my own fabric and wrapping paper with Spoonflower is an AWESOME option! I’m thinking about making a few rolls of Christmas paper this year!

I’ve already sent away this morning to have some quilt labels printed on fabric!  I’m on the edge of my seat waiting to see how the colors match up to the fabric I’m working with and what the quality of the words is like. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that they print clearly and cleanly!

Fabric Pattern Design

Today is officially one of the best days of my life!!!

Yesterday I was talking with my friend Stephanie and I was telling her that I want to start doing fabric pattern design. I’ve been doing graphic design for years, since I graduated from design school, but I’ve never done this kind of work. It takes a whole different set of skills.

I just took a class on Creative Live from Bonnie Christine of Going Home to Roost and have been playing the last few days with creating some designs.

So, back to Stephanie. She is about to launch a new business in which she creates handmade goods, some of which will be made with fabric. She said that she’s always wanted to have fabric made with her {awesome!} artwork and would I be interested in working with her to do that!!!  Ummm, YES, please!

So, today, here’s what I did. I played and created my first real repeating pattern! The birds are hers and the pattern and coloring are mine.
